While CMFA is an advocate for clean air and water, we do not believe this is an item that should be included in the MN Constitution. This is an element that "We the People" need to be able to access, impact and change our approach to and this is done through our Legislative Branch. By adding this element into the MN Constitution, it makes changes on this issue nearly impossible to "We the People". For this reason, we suggest voting NO on this item.
While CMFA is an advocate for lower and lesser (and NO) taxes, we feel the issue of the building of this facility is a "done deal" and it will be funded by us. HOW it is funded is what we are deciding. If we vote YES, we are saying that EVERYONE (no matter where they live) who visits Stearns County will be contributing to the cost of this facility through SALES TAX. Three of the five commissioners have already stated they will be voting FOR this facility. If we vote NO to this item, those 5 commissioners will determine how the Stearns County Residents will be paying for this facility through our PROPERTY TAXES and NOT with Sales tax money. For this reason, we suggest voting YES on this item.
